Chadwick Boseman, who starred in the famous superhero movie “Black Panther” passed away early this morning, after a four-year-long private battle with colon cancer, as disclosed by his family.

Boseman, 43, didn’t discuss his medical condition in public. He although continued to work on major assignments in Hollywood films during this time.

Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in the year 2016, as per his family’s statement online. He battled cancer for four years, as it progressed to stage IV.

“A true fighter”, as described by his family and many others, Chadwick fought through his illness and continued filming his movies, with countless surgeries and chemotherapy sessions in between.

Chadwick passed away at his home, with his wife and family by his side.

Boseman’s first black superhero film Black Panther hit theatres in 2018. The news of his demise has shocked the entire Hollywood community and his fans across the globe.

Marvel Entertainment, in a statement only said, “Our hearts are broken and our thoughts are with Chadwick Boseman’s family. Your legacy will live on forever. Rest in Peace.”

Chadwick was born in South Carolina, to a nurse and an upholstery entrepreneur. He has roots in the west African state of Sierra Leone.

His Marvel film was celebrated as an important cultural moment because it had mainly black cast, and it subverted stereotypes by depicting a prosperous African country that takes in refugees and extends its culture and technology to poorer nations.
