On Saturday, India won its first-ever Gold Medal in the Olympics in over 100 years. The entire credit for this goes to our champion, Neeraj Chopra who bagged the first position in the Javelin Throw. The youngster was very promising in the qualification rounds and only got better as the finals came in.
He became the first Indian track and field athlete to win a medal for India at the Olympics. From politicians to actors, everyone came together to congratulate Neeraj Chopra. It surely was a momentous moment for our country as good wishes and celebrations pour from all across the country.
Despite drawing a blank in shooting and archery, the majority of the other athletes lived up to their reputation. Till now, our country has won 7 medals, out of which, 1 is Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals. The Champions who have won this are as follows.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to his Twitter account to laud all the medal winners besides announcing cash prizes for all the athletes. While Neeraj Chopra will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 Crore, the silver medal winners will bag Rs 50 Lakh. 25 Lakh cash prize has been announced for the Bronze medal winners while the Indian Men’s Hockey team will be awarded Rs 1.25 Crore.
The last time that India created a record was at the London Olympics in 2012 with a total of 6 medals. In London, Sushil Kumar and Vijay Kumar claimed silver medals. On the other hand, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Gagan Narang won bronze medals. This year, the Indian athletes have already beaten their own record by bagging 7 medals.
